The Anishinaabe Bimaadiziwin Research Program (AB) promotes community-based research built on respectful relationships and addresses clinical and social issues. The program is a partnership of the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC), the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine Sioux Lookout Local Education Group (SLLEG). Meaningful collaborations have developed between Anishnaabe Bimaadiziwin researchers, First Nations community leaders, local health provider organization and other research partners.
Our community-based research receives its mandate from the issues affecting the population we serve. Research can facilitate health program planning, evaluation, and advocacy as well as documenting system deficits and clinical areas needing attention. Over the past two decades, our research has involved cross-cultural care, maternal-child health, and a variety of clinical and social topics. We are committed to ongoing meaningful, respectful, relevant and practical research to improve local healthcare service provision and resources.
